A lot of us want to lose weight. The problem is we’re freaking lazy. I’ll admit it.. I would way rather just sit on my butt all day than do any real hard work. It’s especially hard to go hit the gym in the morning or go for a walk on a rainy day. Ughh, I live in the Pacific Northwest and it rains a ton around here. You never want to do anything when it’s raining out!
So…even though we aren’t the most motivated individuals, there are still a ton of ways to lose weight. Best of all, they don’t require any hard exercises which, come on, you know you won’t do. 🙂
14 Ways to Lose Weight For Lazy People
Set A Goal
It’s hard to just acheive something when you haven’t clearly defined what it is you want to do. This isn’t that hard to do. But it does require you to sit down and think about how much weight you really want to lose. Do you want to lose 5 lbs or 50lbs? Those are drastically different goals.
If you just keep saying that you “want to lose weight” then you probably never will. That’s just a very vague concept.
How are you going to do it?
What steps do you need to take to acheive”losing weight”?
Compare that to:
“I want to lose 10 lbs!”
Alright cool! That’s a goal… you can figure out how to lose 10lbs!
Take It One Step At A Time
It’s going to take some time to achieve your goals, so just take it easy on yourself. Know that there are going to be times when you are feeling weak. That’s OK!!! Even if you break your diet, or stop working for a few days… its all okay. Rome wasn’t built in a day. Don’t expect any significant changes to happen overnight.
Cut The Sugary Treats
Maybe easier said then done, but cutting out sugary treat like cookies, doughnuts and candy bars will help a lot towards losing weight. It’s pretty easy, you just don’t want to eat a bunch of high-calorie junk. This is definitely one of the easiest ways to lose weight!
Drink Lots Of Water
First off, water is great for you! Your body needs water to get rid of toxins and well.. pretty much everything. It will also help you feel fuller. Try drinking a glass of water before or during your meals. You will notice that you won’t need to eat as much to feel as full.
Brush Your Teeth
Brush your teeth after every meal. Sounds weird, but food tastes really weird after you brush your teeth. You probably won’t want to keep snacking after you’ve brushed your teeth.
Stop Drinking Soda
Soda is full of corn syrup and sugar– it’s just a bunch of empty calories. I had a friend growing up who lost about 60 lbs by just cutting out soda entirely. Now to be fair, he was drinking 8 or more a day. But if you drink a couple of sodas during the day, try substituting bubbly water instead. It’s really nice to have something carbonated to drink. (in my house, we call it Party Water)
Do Super Quick Mini-Sessions
If you find yourself with a few minutes during the day.. Try doing some sit-ups or holding plank or some other easy exercise. You don’t have to go crazy here, but you will have done more than you would have.
Don’t Skip Meals / Eat Breakfast
Don’t think if you just start skipping meals then you will lose weight. Your body’s metabolism will shift into survival mode and hold on to as much fat as it can. You will also become lethargic and probably end up eating even more than you would have if you had just eaten something in the first place. It’s also really important to eat breakfast. Breakfast gives you energy to get through the day.
Get More Sleep
Getting enough sleep is really important for you. There’s a reason they call it beauty sleep! If you don’t get enough restful sleep, your body will start pumping out hormones to give you more energy during the day which will make you hungrier.
That’s right! Watch TV! Go ahead and do it. But… while you’re doing it, make sure you are doing some exercise. Watching TV will take your mind off what you’re doing. This way you can probably exercise for longer than you would normally.
Sugar-free of course! Chewing gum can help curb your appetite. Avoiding snacking is crucial to losing weight, so use this idea to your advantage. Some good choices here are Orbit or 5 Gum.
Chew Your Food Slowly
By chewing your food slowly, you will feel full sooner. This gives your brain enough time to register that your stomach is full. This will also help aid your digestion, which is nice.
Eat Less, More Often
Try to eat 5-6 smaller meals throughout the day. Try to eat smaller, healthy snacks instead of large meals. This will keep hunger at bay while you eat less.
Get More Fiber and Protein
You will find that if you increase the amount of fiber and protein you eat, you will lose weight. That’s because fiber isn’t soluble (this means your body can’t absorb it). Try eating things like lean meat, nuts, and vegetables (that aren’t starchy). You will be able to feel fuller without eating as many calories. Which is awesome!
Stop Drinking Alcohol
Did you know that there are about 101 calories in a shot of 90 proof vodka? How bout 145 calories in 12 oz of beer? A glass of red wine? 124! How bout that Mai Thai you had 3 of the other weekend? 364 calories! Whooo! Yeah… if you want an easy way to lose weight, then just stop drinking. Oh man, did I just say that? This can be pretty hard when everybody else is drinking and having a great time. But bust out your sparkling water (La Croix is super on trend right now), it’s a great alternative to beer. Alcohol also takes priority in you body as a fuel source, so you have to burn through all that booze before you can start using up the food you also ate. Also, if you stop drinking you won’t have to eat all that grease bomb food to feel better the next day. Maybe that’s just me, but after I drink lot I really want a nice big burger or some nachos or something, and I know I can make better choices than that!
